DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
With that commitment to increase reliability, we are working hard to ensure customers experience fewer outages, especially during extreme weather situations. Due to a recent storm in the area, our crews identified locations to perform follow up service. That included a residential area of Birmingham to receive equipment upgrades.
At the corner of Catalpa Drive and Edgewood Avenue, crews have just installed a new power pole along with the accompanying pole top equipment. That includes modern, more durable cross-arms, and new connectors and insulators. This new pole installation will greatly increase reliability in the immediate area as it will replace the older, outdated equipment. This new equipment is stronger than its predecessor and easier for crews to work on in case an outage occurs.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
