Did you know there are almost five million trees in DTE Energy’s electric service territory that are within 30 feet of an electrical line? In 2016, DTE crews worked with homeowners and municipalities to trim or in some cases remove those trees in a way that preserved the health of the trees while improving reliability.

The result? 70 percent more reliable power for customers compared to 2014.

Heather Rivard, senior vice president, Distribution Operations, DTE went on The Guy Gordon Show to talk about reliability. In her interview, they touched on how smart technologies and smart meters help the company keep track of the health of the energy grid, and how their efforts to improve reliability made restoring power to families affected by last week’s winter wind storm a shorter proposition.
