DTE is leading the way to a cleaner energy Michigan with a bold plan to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Our plan includes making improvements in our own operations and that of our suppliers as well as helping our customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s why we’ve introduced a new program, CleanVision Natural Gas Balance, to make it easy and affordable for DTE gas customers to reduce the environmental impact of their natural gas use. In joining Natural Gas Balance, participants pay a small monthly fee to neutralize a portion of the greenhouse gasses produced by an average home’s natural gas use.
Natural Gas Balance is an evolution of our BioGreenGas (BGG) that started in 2012. With that program, DTE Gas was one of the first utilities in the country to offer renewable natural gas (RNG).RNG is created in Michigan and delivered through our the natural gas pipeline system throughout DTE’s service territory. Now available, Natural Gas Balance builds on that and adds the use of carbon offsets for local and larger environmental impact. Program participation pays for the carbon offsets which provides an incentive to Michigan landowners to avoid harvesting their forests for commercial use. All the forests protected by participation in Natural Gas Balance are located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, including a portion of the North Country Trail.
For a monthly fee from $ 4.00 – $ 16.00, program participants can offset 25 – 100 % of an average home’s natural gas use emissions. Participants can cancel at any time. Natural Gas Balance is approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).
