As we get ready to head into 2019, it’s timely that we reflect on 2018. It’s been a busy but productive year for us at DTE and we could not have done it without your support.
This year, we made major upgrades to our electric system and natural gas lines to ensure we provide safe and reliable service for our customers. We’re planning to nearly double the pace of system upgrades in the next two years.
Because it’s important to us that we help our customers save on their energy bills, we’ve worked hard to maintain our rates even while investing heavily in infrastructure improvements. And earlier this year we passed along savings from a tax credit to all customers.
At DTE, we are not only working to be a partner you can depend on for affordable and reliable energy, we also are passionate about improving our environment. This past year, we accelerated our renewable energy commitment by agreeing to achieve a 50 percent Clean Energy Goal by 2030, at least half of which will be met with renewable energy investments and the rest through energy efficiency.
We also broke ground in August on the natural gas-fueled Blue Water Energy Center in East China Township. When it begins operation in 2022, it will be the most efficient power plant in the state and will produce affordable and reliable low-emission electricity for 850,000 homes.
We’re excited about the possibilities that the new year will bring. In 2019, we will continue the work of upgrading the energy grid, working to brighten Michigan’s environmental and economic futures, and supporting the communities where we live and serve.
In the spirit of the holidays, thank you again for being the most valuable part of DTE Energy.
