Whether you’re the undiscovered Matthew Stafford, or just want to network with like-minded, sports-loving people, local sports leagues are the perfect outlet for the athletically-inclined. Joining a sports league certainly has its benefits – in addition to getting physical activity that will help you stay healthy, you can create new personal and professional connections, develop skill in a sport you never considered participating in or even boost your self-confidence.

Put on your helmet, tie up your cleats and consider joining one of these sports leagues across Michigan:

  • Come Play Detroit (Detroit): Founded to “create active and social experiences in Detroit,” league members 18 and up can flex their muscles on various intramural teams including basketball, softball, flag football and broomball. They also host a number of social events for those 21 and up throughout the year.
  • Stay & Play Social Club (Royal Oak): Founded in 2001, not only does this organization offer a variety of co-ed leagues, including indoor volleyball, kickball, euchre and men/women’s basketball, but they also provide community-outreach based opportunities for participants to have a “balanced and active lifestyle.”
  • Grand Rapids Sport and Social Club (Grand Rapids): Touted as the group for people who “like sports, but love to socialize,” participants in the Grand Rapids Sport and Social Club can join a number of leagues, including dodgeball, bar Olympics and 3-v-3 basketball.
  • Grand Traverse Social Sports (Traverse City): Launched in late 2017, the Grand Traverse Social Sports group may be the “new kid on the block,” but offers traditional sports for all to enjoy, such as broomball and volleyball.
