DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As we continue to strengthen the grid, crews have been busy recently in Livonia executing this initiative. Specifically, our crews were at the corner of Middlebelt Road and Schoolcraft Road installing a new power pole and the necessary pole-top equipment. Installations like this are taking place all throughout the surrounding area in Livonia. Dozens of locations are scheduled to receive similar upgrades based on the analysis of our front-line crews.
These upgrades are being done to help better prepare the grid for the increased electrical needs our customers require. Additionally, these upgrades will provide better performance and higher reliability during extreme weather situations resulting in fewer outages and quicker restoration times.
This process of replacing and upgrading our current infrastructure is key in our plan to build a stronger and more reliable grid. DTE will continue to do this kind of work, not only to increase reliability but also to help with the increased electrical demand in the area.
DTE is building the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
