That’s right, for the fourth year in a row, our hard work and dedication to local communities and causes has resulted in Points of Light naming us one of the top 50 most community-minded companies in the United States with their Civic 50 Award. We were also selected as the leader among all utility companies!

The Civic 50 survey is a framework for good corporate citizenship and selects companies based on four dimensions of their community engagement program – investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems and impact measurement.

In our industry, DTE was #1 in skills-based volunteerism with nearly 3,000 of us volunteering over 47,000 hours at 779 non-profits in 190 cities. Way to go team! We were also:

  • #1 in our industry for percentage of employees participating in external volunteerism
  • #1 in our industry for total donations to social causes through our company and DTE Foundation
  • #3 of all companies for our voting and civic engagement efforts, including initiatives supporting employees and our communities’ access to voting

This year, we remained committed to a community-minded focus as our communities continued to grapple with the challenges of COVID-19. We worked hand in hand with our community partners to address needs from customer bills to PPE. We expanded our actions to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion, including a new partnership with a globally recognized consulting firm to accelerate our progress and partnerships with other local groups on the Connected Futures Initiative to donate 51,000 tablets, putting a computer with high-speed internet with technical support into the hands of every DPSCD K-12 student.
