DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As a part of continued effort to build a stronger grid, our crews have been busy beginning work in Westland. Recently, at the corner of Hubbard Court and Cherry Hill Road, our crews were working hard installing a brand-new power pole, pole top equipment, and a new transformer.
These upgrades are all a part of a new project taking place in the area that will see more than 250 locations serviced by new equipment like this. The upgrades will include installation of over 100 new poles along with multiple transformers and pole top overhauls. These upgrades will provide Westland with new and better performing equipment, especially during extreme weather situations.
Infrastructure improvements are essential to our objective of reducing outages and creating a more robust, reliable grid. By updating our equipment, DTE is not only fortifying the existing system but also preparing to meet the growing electricity demands of the future. We are fully committed to these efforts, ensuring our customers receive the dependable service they expect.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
