DTE Energy was recently recognized as a future workforce fueler by The Best of MichBusiness, an event that is committed to recognizing companies and individuals that make Michigan a great place to do business. Diane Antishin, VP of HR operations, attended the awards ceremony on behalf of the company.

“As part of our aspiration to be a force for growth and prosperity in the communities where we live and serve, DTE is doing work that is both important and innovative to link Michiganders to jobs,” said Antishin. “This prestigious award is another validation of our commitment to strengthening our state.”

The future fuelers category recognized businesses that are changing how we prepare people for the future world of work. The companies who received awards had outstanding apprentice programs, internships, re-careering programs and were recognized for positively impacting workforce development given today’s talent shortage.

DTE is making great strides in the area of workforce development. The company is not only developing a pipeline to fill the nearly 5,000 positions that will open due to retirement in the coming decade, DTE is looking for opportunities to help those who may have barriers to employment. Its workforce development programs include support of FIRST robotics, which prepares young people for STEM and business careers. In addition, about 1,500 high school and college youth work at DTE or partner organizations every year. During Careers in Energy Week, the company works with partners around the state to create exposure and awareness around energy careers. It also works with a number of groups with barriers to employment. Earlier this year, DTE announced a partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections, training returning citizens in tree trimming.

“We believe it’s important to celebrate the businesses and individuals that are moving Michigan forward with new ideas, products and services, as well as creating growth and making our state’s communities stronger,” said MichBusiness CEO and President Jennifer Kluge. “That is the focus of this event, to truly recognize achievements across many industries.”
