School is back, football has returned and pretty soon, trees throughout Michigan will explode in a chorus of fall colors. Autumn is here and so are exciting free events at Beacon Park in downtown Detroit and dozens of communities statewide.

Tailgate parties and football games on the big screen highlight the fall lineup at Beacon Park, along with a three-day Oktoberfest bash and a Halloween party.

Parktoberfest returns to downtown Detroit Sept. 21– 23 with free activities and entertainment at Beacon Park including a Biergarten tent, traditional German and other fall-inspired food along with live music, activities for the kids, traditional dancing demos, and stein-hoisting and keg lifting competitions.

Detroit Lions Tailgate Parties also return to Beacon Park featuring ticket giveaways, lawn games, signature drinks from Lumen, tailgate fare for purchase and games live-streamed on the big screen in tented comfort. Tap into the energy of downtown Detroit two hours before kickoff for these Lions home games:

  • Sunday, Sept. 23 vs. New England Patriots, 6 p.m. to midnight
  • Sunday, Oct. 28 vs. Seattle Seahawks, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 18 vs. Carolina Panthers, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 2 vs. LA Rams, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gear up and watch the annual Michigan-Michigan State game on the big screen live from East Lansing as part of the Big Game Detroit Rally and Tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 20 (time to be announced). Take in the Spartan vs. Wolverine corn hole tournament, music, games and ticket giveaways with food and drinks for purchase.

Bring the little ones in costume to Beacon Park’s free Halloween Family Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a howling good time complete with trick and treating, face painting, inflatables, make and take activities, cider and donuts, music and more.
