SUMMARY:Beacon Park 2020 Programming Update
DESCRIPTION:To keep our community safe during the coronavirus pandemic\, Beacon Park has made the difficult decision to cancel some of our key events for the summer. Unfortunately\, certain activities are too difficult to host with distancing protocols\, such as our annual Free Summer Concert Series and popular Family Fun Days. However\, we’re excited to offer other events this summer that are smaller in scope\, like our fitness classes and Night Markets\, while keeping safety top of mind.   \nBeacon Park remains open for visitors to safely enjoy the green space. You’re also welcome to visit Lumen Detroit\, which is now open and featuring new menu options plus classic favorites. As a reminder\, park restrooms are currently open along with newly placed handwashing stations\, however\, all park water fountains remain closed. Please know that while we can’t wait to see you\, we ask that visitors stay home if they’re feeling under the weather or have recently came in close contact with someone who is sick. \nBeacon Park and the Downtown Detroit Partnership team will continue to evaluate the situation and bring back limited programming that aligns with the guidelines set by the State of Michigan. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram channels for the latest information. \nPlease continue to enjoy Beacon Park while maintaining appropriate physical distancing to keep Detroit safe. We’re all in this together and hope to see everyone soon! \nFor more information and safety measures in Detroit parks\, read more here. \n \n

SUMMARY:Rocky Horror Picture Show with DATC Shadow Cast
DESCRIPTION:Rocky Horror Picture Show is back at Beacon Park with its popular Shadow Cast!\n \nThe Detroit Actor’s Theatre Company (The DATC)\, the DTE Beacon Park Foundation and Downtown Detroit Partnership will present this Halloween cult classic October 8 – 10 at 8:00pm (Doors at 7:00pm).\n \nIn order to safely accommodate visitors\, online registration is REQUIRED and attendance is LIMITED. You may arrive up to one hour in advance to check in.\n \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rocky-horror-picture-show-with-datc-shadow-cast-tickets-121019142513?fbclid=IwAR3W2-Ydrd1XqsLATqPkztsslQkEBwIQHQx8l86KZL2ouFjdbYryNLcG5EM\n \nThe show will take place under the open air tent. Distanced seating will be provided and covered seating\, under the tent\, is limited.\n \nFor those unfamiliar with this type of show\, a shadow cast is a troupe of actors who act/mime/dance in front of a large screen that is showing the film. In essence\, a shadow cast brings the movie to life!\n \nShadow cast definition: This tradition actually seems to have originated with the ever dedicated fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! A shadow cast is an ensemble of artists that act out the movie while it is playing; often times dancing and singing live. They also serve as the catalysts for the audience cues to participate in callbacks and use their props.\n \nDATC tradition: We began presenting this production in 2014. Each year the turnout has grown larger and larger and our particular shadow cast was called “the best in town” by the Michigan Rocky Horror Preservation Society\, yes it’s a real thing! We ran the show annually until 2018 when a very busy 7th season made scheduling of staff and venues very hard. We truly could not find a space big enough that was a good fit\, so we passed.\n \n***Reminder of safety guidelines in Beacon Park***\n1. Stay home if you feel sick\n2. Masks or face coverings are required\n3. Maintain 6ft of physical distance between others\n4. Frequently use hand washing stations located in every park\n
