This is a work that not only seeks to inspire and educate\, but also – through the use of reclaimed ocean plastic – to impact the recovery of our oceans and our planet.\n \n“The Last Ocean”\, created by American contemporary artist\, Jen Lewin\, explores the crisis of plastic pollution in our oceans\, a warming planet\, dwindling natural resources\, and the need for aggressive systemic change. How do we address and mitigate the issues our planet faces as a global community?\n \nDuring the day\, the platforms of “The Last Ocean” will highlight the transformation of reclaimed ocean plastic with a swirled surface of blue and white particulate.\n \nAt night\, “The Last Ocean” will glow with vibrant animated light\, cycling through a diverse palette of carefully curated colors as visitors interact with the work. At the end of the tour\, visitors are invited to plant a bulb at the park. \nConnected to All: Environment + People + Community will bring Detroit artists from all corners of the City to convene around sustainability and the environment at Beacon Park to share their work with the public. A juried outdoor art exhibition featuring artists from the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club and beyond. Artworks from painting\, photography\, prints\, and other unique art forms that will be available for view and sale. Works will be displayed safely outdoors\, beneath a tent pavilion. The Detroit Actor’s Theatre Company and Downtown Detroit Partnership will present this Halloween cult classic October 7-9 at 8:00 p.m. For those unfamiliar with this type of show\, a shadow cast is a troupe of actors who act/mime/dance in front of a large screen that is showing the film. In essence\, a shadow cast brings the movie to life!\nShadow cast definition: For those unfamiliar\, this tradition actually seems to have originated with the ever-dedicated fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! A shadow cast is an ensemble of artists that act out the movie while it is playing; oftentimes dancing and singing live. They also serve as the catalysts for the audience cues to participate in callbacks and use their props.\n \nDATC tradition: DATC began presenting this production in 2014.
