DESCRIPTION:To keep our community safe during the coronavirus pandemic\, Beacon Park has made the difficult decision to cancel some of our key events for the summer. Unfortunately\, certain activities are too difficult to host with distancing protocols\, such as our annual Free Summer Concert Series and popular Family Fun Days. However\, we’re excited to offer other events this summer that are smaller in scope\, like our fitness classes and Night Markets\, while keeping safety top of mind.   \nBeacon Park remains open for visitors to safely enjoy the green space. You’re also welcome to visit Lumen Detroit\, which is now open and featuring new menu options plus classic favorites. As a reminder\, park restrooms are currently open along with newly placed handwashing stations\, however\, all park water fountains remain closed. Please know that while we can’t wait to see you\, we ask that visitors stay home if they’re feeling under the weather or have recently came in close contact with someone who is sick. \nBeacon Park and the Downtown Detroit Partnership team will continue to evaluate the situation and bring back limited programming that aligns with the guidelines set by the State of Michigan. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram channels for the latest information. \nPlease continue to enjoy Beacon Park while maintaining appropriate physical distancing to keep Detroit safe. DESCRIPTION:Join Design Core Detroit in celebrating of the innagural Detroit City of Design Competition winners: Cyclerate by SmithGroup; Garden Novella by Other Work (Detroit); and 3Rooms by Collectif Escargo (Montreal).  \nWe are closing out Month of Design at Beacon Park with a celebration of the three neighborhoods featured in the Detroit City of Design Competiton: Southwest Detroit\, Hope Village and Grandmont Rosedale. Enjoy live talent and entertainment from the three neighborhoods while interacting with the winning prototyles. \nPrototypes will be on view at Beacon Park from September 20-30\, 2019. \nThe City of Design competition is made possibly by John S and James L Knight Foundation. City Cypher and the public exhibition is supported by DTE Energy Beacon Park Foundation. \nAbout the Detroit City of Design Competition\nAs an international\, multidisciplinary competition\, designers hailing from all 31 UNESCO Cities of Design were invited to prototype design solutions for Detroit neighborhoods that address safety and walkability. The goal of the competition is to design and test creative\, innovative design solutions that make it easier for all Detroiters to move freely\, safely and efficiently around their communities. The three prototypes will be moved to their respective neighborhoods in April 2020\, where they will remain for four months. \nEach winner was commissioned $20\,000 for the design and implementation of the prototype.
