SUMMARY:Shape Your World: Beacon Park Interactive Experience ft. Optik Installation
DESCRIPTION:Uncover your own perspective and dive deeper in to how you shape the world and the environment we all share. Curated by the Downtown Detroit Partnership\, the experience highlights the ongoing commitment to bring creativity and community to Downtown Detroit. With a venue theme of “Light\, Energy and Motion” and an approach rooted in functional design\, environmental responsibility\, public accessibility and community\, DTE Energy’s Beacon Park is proud to host the Optik installation during 2025 Detroit Month of Design.  \nFrom September 3 – October 5\, 2025\, from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.\, Beacon Park will transform into a vibrant space filled with lights\, abstract sounds\, melodic music and curated cocktails and mocktails by Lumen Detroit\, all in an open-air setting\, designed to create a one-of-a-kind experience for Downtown Detroit visitors and design enthusiasts.  Optik is an interactive installation that invites individuals to play with their surroundings and discover new perspectives on everyday environments. The installation features ten gyroscope-like structures each standing six feet (1.8 meters) tall. At the center of each structure is a dichroic film that reflects sunlight during the day and refracts the inner ring’s lighting at dusk\, creating a constantly shifting display of color and light. As the audience rotates each unit\, they create their own endless cascade of colors. The experience is amplified as sound joins the movement\, turning each unit into a different musical instrument.    \nThrough movement and reflection of light\, each of these colorful units encourages the public to engage with another unit and other people within the space\, sparking spontaneous conversations\, dance parties\, jam sessions\, light shows and to finally see each and everyone’s true color.  Optik transports people away from their daily routine and into a state of play. It is no longer just a photogenic monument within a space; it becomes a communal hub for social connection.

SUMMARY:Rocky Horror Picture Show with DATC Shadow Cast
DESCRIPTION:Rocky Horror Picture Show is back at Beacon Park with its popular Shadow Cast!\n \nThe Detroit Actor’s Theatre Company (The DATC)\, the DTE Beacon Park Foundation and Downtown Detroit Partnership will present this Halloween cult classic October 8 – 10 at 8:00pm (Doors at 7:00pm).\n \nIn order to safely accommodate visitors\, online registration is REQUIRED and attendance is LIMITED. You may arrive up to one hour in advance to check in.\n \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rocky-horror-picture-show-with-datc-shadow-cast-tickets-121019142513?fbclid=IwAR3W2-Ydrd1XqsLATqPkztsslQkEBwIQHQx8l86KZL2ouFjdbYryNLcG5EM\n \nThe show will take place under the open air tent. Distanced seating will be provided and covered seating\, under the tent\, is limited.\n \nFor those unfamiliar with this type of show\, a shadow cast is a troupe of actors who act/mime/dance in front of a large screen that is showing the film. In essence\, a shadow cast brings the movie to life!\n \nShadow cast definition: This tradition actually seems to have originated with the ever dedicated fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! A shadow cast is an ensemble of artists that act out the movie while it is playing; often times dancing and singing live. They also serve as the catalysts for the audience cues to participate in callbacks and use their props.\n \nDATC tradition: We began presenting this production in 2014. Each year the turnout has grown larger and larger and our particular shadow cast was called “the best in town” by the Michigan Rocky Horror Preservation Society\, yes it’s a real thing! We ran the show annually until 2018 when a very busy 7th season made scheduling of staff and venues very hard. We truly could not find a space big enough that was a good fit\, so we passed.\n \n***Reminder of safety guidelines in Beacon Park***\n1. Stay home if you feel sick\n2. Masks or face coverings are required\n3. Maintain 6ft of physical distance between others\n4. Frequently use hand washing stations located in every park\n
