DESCRIPTION:Join us from September 20 – 26 to experience this year’s art installation – “The Last Ocean” by Jen Lewin\n \n“The Last Ocean” is an expansive landscape of interactive platforms created from reclaimed ocean plastic\, evocative of a luminescent ice field composed of beautiful geometric tessellations. This is a work that not only seeks to inspire and educate\, but also – through the use of reclaimed ocean plastic – to impact the recovery of our oceans and our planet.\n \n“The Last Ocean”\, created by American contemporary artist\, Jen Lewin\, explores the crisis of plastic pollution in our oceans\, a warming planet\, dwindling natural resources\, and the need for aggressive systemic change. How do we address and mitigate the issues our planet faces as a global community?\n \nDuring the day\, the platforms of “The Last Ocean” will highlight the transformation of reclaimed ocean plastic with a swirled surface of blue and white particulate.\n \nAt night\, “The Last Ocean” will glow with vibrant animated light\, cycling through a diverse palette of carefully curated colors as visitors interact with the work. Participants will splash and dance in waves of light\, illuminating the organic and powerful nature of our oceans.\n \nThis installation of “The Last Ocean” is unique\, with a Beacon Park-specific installation slowly dissipating as the piece is exhibited\, conveying the idea of this fragile ecosystem deteriorating over time.\nFor the best viewing experience\, we recommend checking it out at night!

Throughout history\, bells have been rung out across the world as a symbol of celebration and peace and have brought people together to commemorate important events. Artists Amigo & Amigo were inspired by this percussive instrument and created five larger-than-life Swinging Bells placed throughout Beacon Park. The public is invited to experience this interactive attraction and activate each bell’s unique song and colorful light display.\n \nAbout the artists:Amigo and Amigo is a Sydney Australia-based artist studio with an extensive background in sculpture and Industrial Design. Passionate about lighting and experimental forms\, their body of work showcases an ability to use light and materials to transform spaces and engage the public. This community-centric video and light event honors the courage Detroiters have shown and acknowledges the losses we have suffered in facing the two pandemics of COVID-19 and racial injustice. The face of the Grand Army of the Republic Building directly across the street from Beacon Park\, will be covered completely with a moving video light show. The video will loop throughout each night of the event from just after sunset to Midnight. It is comprised of locally gathered images and video as well as massive scale custom-designed graphics and animations. \nIn order to safely accommodate visitors\, we will offer multiple showings each evening. Online registration is required and attendance is limited.
