Making a difference in the communities where DTE serves is at the core of DTE’s aspiration – and it’s never more apparent than during the holiday season.

“This is the 9th year that DTE Energy Foundation has partnered with Meals on Wheels. It’s a great opportunity for us to bring out family, friends and give back to the wonderful communities that we have the honor to serve,” said Trevor Lauer, president of DTE Electric.

Meals on Wheels is an organization dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger. By preparing meals for seniors who are unable to prepare their own, Meals on Wheels enables seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.

DTE’s partnership with Meals on Wheels, which includes providing employee volunteerism opportunities and financial support, continues to grow. In 2018, more than 500 DTE volunteers from across the state, along with friends and families, spent their holidays delivering 20,000 meals to vulnerable citizens and homebound seniors.

Additionally, the DTE Energy Foundation also provided $125,000 in grants to Meals on Wheels.

Volunteers split their time between 16 different locations spread across DTE service territories throughout the month of December where they packed and delivered meals to those in need. Leading up to Christmas, cold packs were provided, and on Christmas Day, volunteers prepared and delivered hot meals.

“The passion our employees have shown for volunteering with Meals on Wheels is remarkable,” said Mark Stiers, president and chief operation officer of DTE. “We had hundreds of employees spend their Christmas Day volunteering, and even more, they brought their friends and family to enjoy the experience too.”
