The DTE Foundation rolled out its new float during the America’s Thanksgiving Parade in November. The float features more than 30 sculpted LED lightbulbs, painted with special iridescent paint to give the bulbs a special glow. The largest bulb is 25 feet high and nine feet wide; if it was an actual bulb it would be an estimated 1,260 watts.

This year, the DTE Foundation launched a contest for Michigan students in kindergarten through 12th grade to submit design concepts for their new parade float. The public was able to vote for their favorite float concept. The winner for our new America’s Thanksgiving Parade float was Carter McCalister, a freshman at Jefferson High School in Monroe.
