DTE Energy customers will see a credit on their May and June electric bills. Amounts will vary, but for example, a customer using 500 kilowatt hours per month will be credited $3.65 in May and June.
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) has allowed energy companies with rate changes under review to apply those changes while they awaited approval. Under this rule, once the MPSC decides on the rate change, any charges in excess of the approved rate are credited back to customers with interest.
Following this practice, DTE’s rate change in effect from November 1, 2017 to May 1, 2018 has resulted in a credit customers will see on their electric bills in May and June.
The MPSC and Michigan energy companies have agreed that, moving forward, rate changes will only be implemented following rate review decisions.
