After her service as a sergeant in the Army came to an end, Sarah Taylor moved from Indiana to Livonia, Michigan because she was drawn to DTE Energy’s purpose-driven culture.

When she’s not working as a senior program manager in DTE’s Public Affairs group, Taylor dedicates her time to volunteer for veterans services organizations.

Most recently, she participated in Team Red White and Blue’s Old Glory Relay. More than 10,000 hands carry the flag in a route that spans 4,300 miles. The relay is the largest event that the veterans service organization puts on every year.

“I had a police escort for almost two miles through my hometown of Livonia. I ran the flag into the city hall and handed it to the mayor,” she said. “We were welcomed by family and emergency responders and stopped to take photos with everyone. It was a really cool feeling.”

Taylor became one of the pioneers of our employee community’s veteran engagement because of her deep-rooted passion for service and teambuilding.

At DTE, Taylor combined her passion for service and teambuilding with her military background. “After I started at DTE, I wanted to find some creative way to engage veterans at work so we could connect on a personal level and share experiences. I got together with three other employees and formed the VETS energy group to accomplish that goal.”

VETS is DTE’s employee resource group that brings the company’s veterans together to network and engage all aspects of the military community, which includes military families and veteran service organizations.

In 2016 DTE Energy was one of six companies recognized as a gold-level Veteran-Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA). Being recognized at the gold level means that DTE retains more than 75 percent of veteran hires within a 12-month period and has implemented internal veteran support networks.

DTE encourages veterans to apply for the wide variety of positions open at the company. Veterans can apply at The website provides Military Occupational Codes and translates the codes to positions open at DTE.
