Lighting the way for economic growth

Tags: ,

2017 was a big year for economic development in southeast Michigan.

Amazon announced the opening of fulfillment centers in Livonia and Shelby Township. Downtown Pontiac got a little brighter when lights from the marquee in front of the newly opened Flagstar Strand Theatre lit up. And in Detroit, QLine is on the move, and it’s always show time at Little Caesars Arena.

One thing these new businesses all have in common: their power source.

DTE Energy is powering these new developments, as well as many others across the state. We’re building the infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of businesses now and in the future, and in the process, we’re supporting the economic growth and prosperity of Michigan communities.

Speaking of communities, we spent 2017 transforming the electrical grid to deliver safer, more reliable energy to our customers. We launched or completed new substation projects in areas including Ann Arbor, Ferndale, and Detroit. We also trimmed hundreds of thousands of trees growing too close to power lines.

In addition, we’re making upgrades across our entire service territory – by replacing utility poles, stringing new power lines, installing new smart technologies and more.

We look forward to continuing this work in 2018 with projects such as powering Ford Motor Company’s Research and Engineering Center with a host of advanced sustainability systems; and further improving power quality for Michigan residents and businesses.
