It’s that time of year again! And no, we don’t mean Thanksgiving or Christmas. Beginning November 18, the Detroit Zoo will kick off its annual tradition of welcoming visitors to enjoy a fantastic light display in celebration of the holidays known as Wild Lights. Read on for this fantastic family-friendly event in which DTE is proud to be an annual sponsor.

What is ‘Wild Lights’?

For 24 nights, more than five million LED lights will illuminate trees, buildings and more than 230 animal sculptures throughout the front half of the zoo. This is a perfect event for the Christmas-light lover in your family and is ideal for getting into the holiday spirit (for any age!)

When does Wild Lights take place?

The zoo offers 24 days to enjoy wild lights, which includes: November 18-19 and 24-26 and December 8-10, 15-17, 20-23 and 26-31. Timing is 5:30 – 9 p.m. ET on select weeknights and Sundays, 5:30 – 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

How much does it cost to attend?

Wild Lights is a local metro-Detroit favorite, so it’s best to buy tickets online and ahead of time. Tickets are now on sale, available here. Tickets sold in advance (either online or on site at Customer Care during daytime Detroit Zoo hours) will range from $10 to $16 throughout the 24-night run of the event. Walk-up tickets sold at the gate for all nights and time slots will be $16. The zoo recommends guests check the online web store for the best price available as the gates will always have the highest price. Parking is $7 per car.

Is there anything else to do while there?

Yes! The Rudolph Package, which includes one untimed admission for Wild Lights and one ticket to the 4-D Theater to see “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D”, is $18 for any night of the event. The Winter Rink Package, which includes one untimed admission for Wild Lights and one session on the skating rink, is also $18. Carousel rides and photos with Santa Claus will also be available for purchase. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition in the Ford Education Center, showcasing some of the world’s most spectacular photography, is included with admission.
