Family-friendly events during Thanksgiving break

Tags: , ,

Nothing gets your family into the holiday spirit more than attending traditional events hosted all across Michigan. Whether you’re looking to watch beautiful parade floats pass by, experience the first twinkling of holiday lights, or run/walk your way to a delicious turkey dinner, we’ve got the events for you. Here are just a few coming up during Thanksgiving week that would be great for the family to visit while school and work are out.

Parades

Light Shows

  • The Big, Bright Light Show – Monday, Nov. 20: If you’ve never visited Downtown Rochester during the holidays, this is the year to start. Watch as the buildings along Main St. light up from top to bottom with over one million holiday lights that stay aglow until January 7, 2018.
  • Fantasy of Lights Parade – Friday, Nov. 24: The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation presents the Fantasy of Lights Parade where families can see dozens of illuminated floats. The event starts at 7 p.m.; get there early to get a good spot!

Holiday Runs

  • Petoskey Turkey Trot for Charities – Thursday, Nov. 23: The YMCA of Northern Michigan hosts its fifth annual 5K run/walk in Downtown Petoskey. Nothing like getting the family ready for a turkey dinner than by participating in a little group run first!
  • 2017 Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot – Thursday, Nov. 23: Head downtown Detroit well before the parade and take part in a family tradition of 34 years. Participants can sign-up for the 10K Turkey Trot Run, 5k Stuffing Strut Run/Walk, or the Mashed Potato Mile.

DTE Energy is proud to sponsor these holiday events and hopes you and your loved ones have a safe, wonderful Thanksgiving!
