Empowering the arts and kids in West Michigan

Over its 33-year history, the DTE Energy Foundation — the philanthropic arm of DTE Energy — has continuously strengthened its support for Michigan, its communities and its residents. In Greater Michigan, the Foundation increased its overall support for initiatives focused on education and employment, the environment, economic progress and basic needs.

The support was evident during a recent press conference announcing Kids’ Food Basket’s capital campaign to expand its capacity. Kids’ Food Basket launched its Feeding Our Future campaign, a $6 million fundraising effort to fund a new home for Kids’ Food Basket on 14 acres of farmland and expand their services to 15,000 West Michigan children. During the press conference, the DTE Energy Foundation pledged to match donations up to $100,000 for this critical expansion.

You can visit a special Kids’ Food Basket booth weekends during ArtPrize, the world’s largest annual public art event held each year in Grand Rapids. The DTE Energy Foundation also supports ArtPrize by funding its Awards Ceremony. The grant provided by the Foundation this year allows the Awards Ceremony to be open to the public for the first time.

“The DTE Energy Foundation is proud to sponsor the culmination of this celebration – the ArtPrize Awards Ceremony. Grand Rapids takes its place on the international stage with this premier event, driving economic growth in the region and bringing the community together to celebrate the arts,” said Faye Nelson, vice president, DTE Energy, and board chair and president of the DTE Energy Foundation. “Opening the Awards Ceremony to the public ensures that all visitors to ArtPrize have the opportunity to honor the winners and join us in the celebration.”
